Preventative Services

It is important to prioritize preventative dental care by taking your child to the dentist early. At Children’s Crossing Pediatric Dentistry, we offer various preventative services to help keep your child’s teeth healthy and strong. These services include:

Cleanings & Exams

Regular cleanings and exams are an important part of preventative dental care. We recommend you bring your child in for a cleaning and exam at least twice a year. During these appointments, we will clean your child’s teeth and check for any signs of tooth decay or other problems.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a mineral that helps to prevent tooth decay and strengthen teeth. During your child’s appointment, our dentists will check their teeth to determine if fluoride treatment is necessary.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are a thin coating applied to the back teeth to prevent tooth decay. Sealants are typically recommended when your child’s permanent molars come in (between 6 and 12 years old).

If your child has a cavity, we will fill it with a tooth-colored filling. This will help to prevent further decay and restore your child’s tooth to its original shape and function.

A dental crown is a type of cap placed over a tooth to protect it from further decay. Crowns are usually used for teeth that have been severely damaged by decay.

Pulpotomy is an endodontic treatment that is most often used on primary (baby) teeth. When decay or injury reaches the dental pulp, which is the innermost layer of the tooth, patients often experience tooth pain and sensitivity. During the pulpotomy, we remove the decay and apply a dental crown to prevent future damage and pain.

A frenectomy is a procedure that is used to remove the frenulum from the mouth. The frenulum is a small piece of tissue that attaches the lips and cheeks to the gums. Frenectomies are usually performed on children who have a tongue-tie or lip-tie.

Emergency Care

If your child has a dental emergency, we are here to help. We offer a variety of emergency dental services to help relieve your child’s pain and get them back on the road to recovery.

Preventative Care at Home

In addition to regular dental visits, there are some things that you can do at home to help prevent tooth decay and keep your child’s teeth healthy.

Here are some tips:

  • Brush your child’s teeth twice a day. Do not use toothpaste with fluoride until your child is three years old or a dentist has advised you.
  • Use a small, child-sized toothbrush with soft bristles. Be sure to replace it every 3-4 months or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
  • Floss your child’s teeth daily.
  • Brush your child’s tongue to help prevent bad breath and bacteria growth.
  • Encourage your child to eat healthy foods and avoid sugary drinks.
